Project Highlights

The campus will become the largest spaceport in the world, with capacity to support thousands of launches annually.
At full buildout, the site is expected to include five launch complexes with two launch pads each, along with propellant farms, a propellant production facility, and employee housing.
Construction beginning by the end of 2027 with the first launch targeted as soon as 2029.

DOTD is evaluating potential improvements to Highway 82 based on the project’s transportation and construction needs.

Who will pay for transportation improvements related to the project?

DOTD and the project team are determining the scope and responsibility for improvements directly related to the project. Some cost sharing is expected between the state and SpaceX.

Utilities

Will the project require new utility infrastructure or power generation?

Yes. New generation and transmission infrastructure will be needed. SpaceX, utility providers and the appropriate regulators are working together to plan the additional infrastructure needed to serve the project.

Will existing customers have to pay for the project’s utility needs?

SpaceX will cover the costs of new generation and infrastructure upgrades needed for the project so existing ratepayers do not experience an adverse impact.
The Louisiana Public Service Commission and appropriate utility providers will oversee matters within their respective authority.

Permitting & Regulatory Oversight

What permits and regulatory approvals will be required?

SpaceX is working with the federal, state and local agencies responsible for permitting and regulatory review.
The project will go through all applicable environmental, wetlands, natural resource and launch-related reviews.

Coastal & Environmental Protection

How is coastal protection being incorporated into the project?

From regulated activities related to site development to voluntary restoration plans across the entire property, the company has sought the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority’s (CPRA) input and guidance at every stage.
SpaceX is proactively working with CPRA to evaluate opportunities for improved hydrology, habitat restoration, shoreline stabilization and long-term management of the property.
The currently proposed development area does not affect any active CPRA restoration projects.
If not for this project, the projected level of investment in CPRA-related projects and total number of acres being restored, enhanced and protected for future generations would not be achievable.

Wildlife & Fisheries

How will wildlife, fisheries and habitats be protected?

SpaceX is proactively working with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and other appropriate agencies to identify measures to avoid, minimize or mitigate potential impacts to wildlife, fisheries and habitat.
Unavoidable wetlands impacts must be fully mitigated by the company.
