  • Product: Renewable fuels using residual sugar cane fiber, or bagasse, as a feedstock
  • Location: Jeanerette, Iberia Parish / Acadiana Region
  • Project overview:
    • New facility will use the pulp left after the juice is extracted from sugar cane to make biomass fuel pellets, which can be burned with or without standard industrial wood pellets to generate power.
    • Bagasse fuel pellets offer a lower-cost alternative to typical wood pellets and greater reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
    • European and Asian power and industrial plants transitioning from fossil fuels – primarily coal – use more than 27.5 million tons of wood pellet biomass each year. Biomass fuel pellets reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 100%  when compared to burning fossil fuels in the plants.
    • The company has long-term contracts primarily with power utility companies across Europe for the sale of more than 1.8 million tons of pellets over the next several years.
