IBM To Conduct Aug. 10 New Orleans Career Fair Focused On Veterans
NEW ORLEANS — Global technology leader IBM will conduct a career fair spotlighting opportunities for veterans on Saturday, Aug. 10, in New Orleans. The IBM Veterans Career Fair will be at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, located at 2 Poydras St., with activities taking place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the third-floor Jefferson Ballroom of the Hilton.
LED FastStart®, the nation’s No. 1 state workforce development program, is supporting the event. Interviews will take place on-site for all interested candidates, and attendees are asked to dress professionally and bring their résumés. Though the Aug. 10 event is focused on veterans, other technology job seekers are encouraged to attend as well.
At the career fair, IBM will seek experienced and emerging information technology professionals to join the company’s flagship Client Innovation Center in downtown Baton Rouge. IBM anticipates filling more than 50 new positions for the Baton Rouge site.
“IBM plays a critical role in the continued growth of Louisiana’s IT sector, and ranks as one of the most well-respected companies in the industry,” LED FastStart Executive Director Paul Helton said. “IBM’s presence in Baton Rouge demonstrates confidence in our Louisiana workforce. About one in every 12 Louisiana adults is a military veteran – higher than the national average – and our veterans are valued for their loyalty, teamwork, leadership and tech-savvy skills. These are all attributes prized by IBM, and we encourage our veterans and other skilled IT professionals to attend the Aug. 10 Veterans Career Fair in New Orleans.”
IBM will recruit veterans and other IT professionals with skills in mainframe development; full stack development; automation and mainframe testing; Xamarin; AWS; and technical business analysis.
IBM’s operations in Louisiana have played a significant role in advancing the state’s software, digital media and IT services sector, the fastest-growing industry sector in the state. A key to the sector’s success is Louisiana’s strategic investment of millions of dollars at higher education campuses throughout the state to expand degree and certification programs in computer science and related STEM fields. IBM operates two Client Innovation Centers in Louisiana, one in downtown Baton Rouge and one in Century Village next to CenturyLink’s headquarters in Monroe.
